: Takin' It Out and Choppin' It Up.
I rarely go on rants or anything, but today I read something that really pissed me off and I wanna share with everyone(or whoever reads this) my feelings on the subject. Now bare with me I'm not a great writer but I have some very strong feelings on this subject so I will do my best. So here's my lil history of The Movielife to help get things across better. So I read AP today and there is a 4 page spread called "If Only Duct Tape Could Fix Everything" and it's about The Movielife, who are one of my favorite bands ever. Now the article has ex Movielife members and current Movielife members at the time they broke up talking about the rise and fall of the band, touring, van accidents, band beef and etc. All and all the article is a pretty good timeline of the band and really shows you how hard bands have to work especially then when there was no internet presence like there is today and not every band would tour in a bus but most of the time in vans or whatever else they could get their hands on. So one of the people that AP interviewed about the band was Stephanie Reins who is co-owner of Drive-Thru records with her brother Richard Reins, now I'll get back to them in a few. The Movielife is a very important band to me, I got into them at a very important time in my life, my teens. I would see them open for hardcore bands at the Fireside all the time they were like the Reach The Sky of pop-punk. But they weren't just another pop-punk band, they did the whole crossover thing where they were all Long Island dudes who grew up listening to hardcore and were in hardcore bands who did something different. That's a big reason they appealed to me so much is because they were like my New Found Glory, a pop-punk band with hardcore influence(which are a dime a dozen nowadays). So The Movielife had a great full length that came out on Revelation Records called "This Time Next Year" which killed it and they made a pretty good name for themselves with that record. After things ended with Revelation they went on to sign to Drive-Thru records who at the time were doing great things with the cross-over bands like New Found Glory so it seemed like a great idea for them to sign to that label. So they released their next EP on Drive-Thru entitled "Has A Gambling Problem" which has 2 of their best songs Hand Grenade and Walking On Glass. I guess this record didn't go over well with most people(even though I thought it was great) people said they were sell outs and they were a full blown pop-punk band now. Drive-Thru also wasn't happy with the record and after that seemed to kind of give up on them. So at one point The Movielife were in a pretty bad van accident, no one died or anything but some broken bones and stitches and what not. Out of that van accident though a great album was recorded called "40 Hour Train Back to Penn" which had a song about the accident called Jamestown, this record is hands down my favorite record by them. I loved 40 Hour Train Back to Penn because it seemed to have a lot of pain and depression behind it but with great hooks and an all out great sound. So shortly after this record came out and after some touring in 2003 the band decided to break up. Now in 2006 on Warped Tour I actually got to meet and hang out with Vinne(lead singer) on many occasions because his band I Am The Avalanche was on Warped and were friends with The Fully Down who I was sharing a bus with. So one day I got the balls to talk about The Movielife with Vinnie and I told him how much I loved them and so on and how me and him had actually met before in Clubhouse Records after they played a show at Metro which he actually remembered because I offered to buy his AN hoodie. So I asked him if The Movielife would ever dude a reunion and he told me he wasn't sure because him and some other dudes in the band just wanted to do it and be able to say goodbye in the right way but they were afraid that Drive-Thru would make it into the wrong reasons and make it about money and very stressful stuff. Now back to the Reins, I have actually met them before and spent time with them due to my touring with Halifax. Let me tell you I wasn't a fan at all, these people were rude and totally look down on people that aren't their talent. Now if you read the article you see how Stephanie talk about how the band just wanted money to do all this stuff that didn't really matter to the label but more the band. On the other side of it the band talk about how Drive-Thru wouldn't do any promotion for the new record or help them out at all and seem to have just given up on them because they weren't happy with the sound of Has A Gambling Problem. I 100% believe the band on this one because I've met these people and I've seen how they act and they are awful. I gotta be honest these people treated me like shit because I was just a Merch guy so I didn't matter and wouldn't look at me when I would talk to them and didn't pay attention to me even when the band was telling them I had a good idea or was a good merch guy or anything like that. I mean Richard is to busy being a Pedophile and trying to sneak perv grabs on all the new "young" talent for his label and Stephanie is too busy getting fingerbanged by dudes in the bands on her label, so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't know or pay attention to a good band anymore unless they were Hellogoodbye or The Early November. So after reading this article and remembering the time I spent with the Reins and hearing the stories from other bands about them I blame a chunk of the band breaking up on Drive-Thru records. So I say fuck them and there mansion in New Jersey. They don't give a fuck about music they just give a fuck about money, they are total fucking trash. At 2008's Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left Vinnie did a somewhat Movielife reunion with the band Set Your Goals instead of anyone from the actual band. I heard the show was great and I watched videos from it and it looked very fun and it makes me sad I missed it. I saw Vinnie not long after that and asked him about it, he told me it was nice to put it bed finally and that he had a great time with it. He just knew if they made a big deal out of doing this then Drive-Thru would have taken it and made it about making money and not having fun. I hope one day to see The Movielife again, I know Vinnie is tied up in I Am The Avalanche who are actually really good and Brandon Reilly is doing Nightmare Of You which is another great band. But it would be great to see the full band do a full reunion, maybe if I'm lucky I'll even have a hand in making it happen. For the record I don't care if the Reins ever read this or whatever, I actually hope they do so they can know they ruined a great band and that they are horrible people. I also hope Vinnie or anyone from The Movielife read this so they can know how much that band meant to me and how I never get tired of listening to their records still to this day. Their music is a big part of my life and helped me make it through high school because we all know those years can be very had on some kids. So there it is, my rant on The Movielife and how much they meant to me and how just music in general means a lot to me. I hope some people appreciate me writing and posting this. Current Mood:

: Top 10 Records of The Year
I know everyone does a Top 5, but I like to do a Top 10 just makes things easier. This started with about 20 records and I narrowed it down. Shits not easy. This year I decided to do a little review of each record. Man I wish my reviews were clever and hilarious like the ones in Vice but alas I'm not a good writer at all. Enjoy! 1. Amanda Palmer - Who Killed Amanda Palmer? Now this is a great record. I love The Dresden Dolls and when I heard that Amanda was making a solo record I thought it was really going to suck. The first song proved me very wrong. It's a themed record and it flows very well, she throws in the punk-cabaret sound of The Dresden Dolls and then puts her own twist on classical music with her great piano playing and her wonderful voice. She just needs to shave her armpits and I will respect her a lot more. 2. The Presets - Apocalypso When I asked a friend of mine who is a part of the Dark Wave DJ's about this record he told me it didn't have the potential of the last record and it didn't have any club bangers much like the record had so I slept on it for awhile then one day I was in best buy saw it and decided to buy it. Boy was he wrong, very wrong. This record has so many great dance songs on it that make me feel that I was hanging out with Michael Alig and James St. James in the 80's. These 2 dudes in The Presets may be very weird but they sure know how to make some great hipster/dance music. 3. Girl Talk - Feed The Animals Man I hated on Girl Talk so much when I first heard of him, I will admit that I hated and hated hard. One night I decided to download this record and right away I regretted being such a hater. As much of an asshole that Greg Girl Talk is he can do some amazing mash-ups. He makes the record flow so well and he really does put some great songs together. Another good thing that listening to any of his records does is it makes you remember a bunch of older 1 hit wonder type bands/groups which is actually pretty awesome. But I will say a lot of his fans are total fucking douche bags. 4. The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound There was so much hype around this band, everyone I know told me how amazing they were and man they were all right. This record is a great Rock record. There is so much talent in this band, I know that the singer and I think the guitar player both have solo projects. Every song on this record is great, it flows so well from faster type songs to slower type songs and they definitely don't overdue it. They mix it up with the Rock and Country feel that you aren't sure what to label it as but I could totally see this band touring with bands like Tiger Army, Reverend Horton Heat and bands like Rise Against. I'm looking forward to seeing them live at some point. 5. Ceremony - Still Nothing Moves You Fuck this band is awesome, I'm usually not into these kind of bands but this is the one exception for me. This band totally brings it on every record and EP they put out. I mean they give it their all on stage and on record. Every time I listen to this record and that first song starts I wanna break so much shit and punch so many people and it's very rare now a days that a band with will do that to me. These dudes have a lot to say and they deliver it in a good way with their music. Their live show was awesome and I lost my shit once they started playing but then I saw a girl moshing and had to call it a day. 6. Trapped Under Ice - Stay Cold When I heard the name of this band I was not into them but then I heard this EP and thought it was amazing. They definitely bring back that late 90's hardcore sound which few bands have anymore. When most bands try to have that sounds they come off like wanna be hood dudes and usually it is awful but these dudes pulled it off pretty well and made a solid EP. 7. Rick Ross - Trilla Rick Ross is fucking amazing plain and simple. He can go from rapping about being a drug dealer in Miami to rapping about buying his girlfriend designer bags. This record remind me of early 90's rap records without the awesome haircuts. This record is well produced and whoever is making his beats is doing a great job and he has some good guest spots by Jay Z and Triple C dudes. I don't care if he used to be a CO or not this is a solid Gangsta Rap Record. 8. Cancer Bats - Hail Destroyer I don't know how dudes from canada can pull of a southern sound or what southern sound actually means but the Cancer Bats totally have it. They mix in hardcore music with punk very well. Their guitar player can shred like no other and it adds a good metal feel to the record. From start to finish this record slays and every time i finish it I have to play it again. 9. Fireworks - Adventure, Nostalgia and Robbery This band is fun, I love this band. They are making a type of music I thought was dead but this EP proves me wrong for sure. They have that NFG sound but not as annoying as that band. Most pop-punk are too poppy but this band focuses more on the punk aspect with a hint of pop. They are not one of those pop-core bands which have just gotten extremely watered down and stupid. Fireworks also does a wonderful job at covering Kid Dynamites Heart-A-Tact on this EP which few people can successfully cover that band. 10. Polar Bear Club - Sometimes Things Just Disappear I thought only Hot Water Music and Small Brown Bike could pull off this sound but Polar Bear Club is the new version of those bands with a pop-punk feel to them. When I saw this band I thought the lead singer would lose his voice going from the screaming and singing parts and they were going to suck but he goes back and fourth very well and they were amazing live. This band has that great sing-a-long feel to them which makes the songs get stuck in your head all day and if a band can do that then they are pretty amazing in my eyes. Dave Cronin just so you know Blacklisted was with my top records but it didn't make the cut. I would do top events of the year or whatever but the list would be very big, it's just hard to narrow that stuff down for me. But I am very happy that John and Nyree moved back and I'm happy that I've started being friends with old friends again. I'm also very happy to have a great girlfriend and a great dog. 200hate was a good year we will see what 2009 has to offer. Current Mood:

It's been a very intense week. Tickets for the show went on sale and were sold out just as fast. If you didn't get tickets you are pretty much fucked. This morning, very very early I said goodbye to one of my best friends and it was very hard. I know it for the best and all that but that doesn't make him live in chicago still and be here to come hang out and what not. I will miss him more than words can describe. I get to see Ceremony tomorrow(hopefully) and I'm pretty stoked on that. Fuck You.... Current Mood:

Watching the news last night as we were waiting to find out who was going to be the next president I kept wondering to myself how I wished that certain people could have been alive to see this. I mean my dad was involved in the chicago riots in 1968 during the Democratic National Convention which led to the Chicago 7/8 trials and now here we are with Obama as our president and it's awesome. I was very stoked when I voted yesterday because I felt I helped make a difference. A friend of mine told me this today "You better carry a bottle of water with you today because there will be plenty of salty crackers out there today". I thought that was hilarious. Did you notice during John McCain's speech when he mentioned Obama's name all his supporters started booing but when Obama made his awesome speech and he mentioned McCain's name people actually cheered for him? Well didn't boo him at least. Fuck them. Anyway I don't have much else to say. I hope everyone that could Vote did because it was awesome to be a part of it. Current Mood:

I have nothing to say anymore, if I do I doubt I'll post it here because let's be honest who actually reads this? Exactly Anyway. Working a shit load still it's not 100% fun but it's nice to be constantly busy. What really suck about working so much is that I miss all my stories on the TV so I'm always playing catch up. I'm actually giving this DJing a lot of effort because it's something I'm actually interested in so what the fuck might as well do my best to press play. I love riding my bike. The weather has been perfect so that just makes things better. Besides that not much going on besides Halloween and you all know I love myself some Halloween. and since we're both awake lets sit up and talk about the last 3 years she said I guess lets drink this bottle like its medicine to our head and fall asleep we'll have headaches in the morning oh I hope I don't overdose on empty promises and beautiful pictures of the one I should've had I couldn't possibly deal with that Current Music: Who Killed Amanda Palmer

I got a bike. It's awesome. I wish I could somehow take dexter around with me on it, but I don't want to put him in any danger.
Went camping last week for like 3 days. It also was awesome. Tried to get sun but failed. I was for real shirtless for like hours and hours on end but barely any color. We rented a paddle boat and while on it hawks were circling us and we were wondering why then it came to us that dexter was on the boat and they wanted his little 3 pound ass for a taco dinner. John Reagan is in town. I like that. He makes me smile. He is missed. Been listening to these lately... I think about a lot of things.. I always wonder if something is my fault and what I could've done to avoid it. Right now I'm thinking of something that has been bothering me for a long time. I tend to vent about it in an angry or violent way. I'm a dude thats just how I handle things. But when it all comes down to it I'm sad and hurt and just want to make things better. I think it's too late but I still don't know if i did something wrong or not. I will say this though, no words can express how much I miss my friend. So what can I do? I really have no idea so I'm gonna keep being a pussy and just being angry about it and talking shit. But I miss you, one of my best friends and I lost him maybe because I am an asshole but I know an asshole would not have done half the things I did for him. Again I'm probably missing the big picture. If I could just sit and talk and say sorry I would but I don't think I'm missed or welcomed. Sketch of your faces I still don’t know you, aren’t permanent, permanent. You want all of our moments stolen, blind alleys and hallways to basements. How are you gonna hide till you disappear? Cos' nothing and nowhere is golden. Apartments are cages I still don’t know what is permanent, permanent. Maybe all my possessions were precious. Truth is, all my possessions I somehow lost 'em. Been traveling so light, when we’re floating by it seems nothing and nowhere is golden. Some say we’re lost in space, some say we’re fallin' off the page Some say our life is insane but it isn’t insane on paper Playgrounds are graveyards and all of our scars are permanent, permanent. There’s no replacement for places. I’ll always love you, you’re mine. Numb is the new high, all memories die out ‘till nothing and nowhere is golden. Some say we always only wanna get off, some say our hands are much too soft. Some say our life is insane but it isn’t insane on paper. Some say our hair is in our eyes, some say we’re out of our little minds. Some say our life is insane but it isn’t insane on paper to ah ha ha ha ha. Have to ask. Current Mood:

: This Is It....
So its lallapalooza weekend and so work is super busy, which is good. 2 good bands are playing Metro Gogol Bordello(which was last night) and Broken Social Scene(which is tonight). Last nights show was insane and busy so it was stressful but I like Gogol Bordello so it seemed worth it and their crew were really awesome. So one thing I really like about Gogol Bordello is that the lead singer was in a movie called Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood which is a great movie. So the best part of my night and probably my whole weekend(unless Emily Haines is with Broken Social Scene tonight and she plays some of her amazing solo jams) was that Elijah Wood was at the show because he dates one of he dancers in Gogol Bordello. So at the end of the night after I was finished with merch and everything I actually got to meet him and he was super nice and was not creeped out at all when I told him Green Street Hooligans is one of my favorite movies of all time. So with that all being said I leave you with this which only probably 5 of you will have any idea what it is. Dripping blood on your sunday dress So much baggage, a fucking mess. Day after day, a life on the ropes. No use waiting for any hope. You're just a waste of my breath. Hope you get the flowers I wont send. This time baby, you can't leave. Okay, so here is my end of the year post. It really has been a great year, for once the good out weigh the bad. Even though I went through a few things I didn't think I'd make it through, but I did thanks to my amazing girlfriend Jenna, my family and my friends. It sucks that through the last year I lost some people i thought were real friends but who turned out to be just big fakes. But I did rekindle some friendships I thought were lost forever, which is awesome in my eyes. I also met some people who I know i will be friends with for the rest of my life. Highlights of the year. 1. Celebrating my 1 year anniversary with my amazing girlfriend Jenna. 2. Getting Dexter 3. Meeting Jenna's Family 4. Getting an Xbox 360, A Wii and a Black Macbook 5. A couple of more things to do tomorrow and I'll be ready to sell shirts to all the kids out there. If none of you have heard of Shirts For A Cure please check it out here SSE. Today is also Valentines Day. Since I'm an asshole I'm not home so I'm away from the girl I love. I miss her so much. This is definitley the hardest tour I've ever done. But it will only make us stronger. I know it will. So Happy Valentines Day, Jenna, I miss and love you so much. Well I'm off to be bored some more. I miss home and all my friends already. I don't really know anyone on this tour so hopefully I'll be busy a lot and won't even think about it. All you kids come out and support please. PS. My homosexual roommate/life partner wrote 5 awesome little stories. Everyone should go read them. Pics soon Current Mood:

: This One Goes Out To All The Kids Who Are Still Fuckin' Straight Edge..
There's only a handful left. I'm proud to say that I'm one of them. I'm a lucky boy. I get a lot of things I don't deserve. An amazing girlfriend who makes me breakfast and sandwiches and puts up with all my shit and constant bed moshing. I have amazing friends who put up with my offensive jokes and bad taste. I have an amazing family that seems to rarely fight and who are closer than most families I would like to say, but i could be wrong. I'm lucky to be given opportunities that I don't deserve, because lets be honest I could fuck up a bowl of cereal. But I'm gonna do my best and give it my all because I want my friends, girlfriend and family to be proud to be my friend, girlfriend and family. I hate being a let down. Tour starts in a little over a week. Mark is gonna pick me up in Chicago and we are basically driving to seattle. Should be fun!! To all the kids and friends in other states who read this hopefully we can hang , I will post dates below. I will be on Taste Of Chaos working my ass off. Also if anyone has an Ipod they would like to get rid of let me know before friday. I had a nice 30g Video Ipod but there was an accident and someone who will remain nameless dropped it in the toilet. But there are no hard feelings. So if someone has one they don't want or are willing to sell let me know I could use music on tour.
